CONCENTRATION
1.What is the central idea of your concentration? (500 characters maximum)
My concentration explores what our society has evolved into over the past few years. While there are many benefits that come with this rapid growth rate, it serves as a double edged sword. Many complications has also manifested within our everyday lives and hinder us from living our lives to the fullest potential. I wanted to highlight some of those complications within my concentration to show how crooked our society has become.
2.How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers. (1350 characters maximum)
I started by wanting to talk about the younger generation, and how they are really weak/ easily bruised like a strawberry (image 1). My concentration led me into focusing more on how technology is a main cause of stress in our rapidly growing society, and how it has affected us as humans. As I planned out my other pieces I started to look more into how it affects our mental states. For example, image 3 investigates the thought that thought itself, in our generation, is being created by someone else. Images 4,5 and 6 explore how that plays out in physical or digital terms of self image (plastic surgery or digital manipulation of self portraits). The 5 most common mental disorders today (from left to right: Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Eating Disorders, and Bipolar Disorder) became the topic of investigation in image 7 and 8, leading into a piece exploring overeating (image 9). I also wanted to highlight the fact that despite having a rise in mental illness cases over the years, there are people who do not have any illness and yet use it as an excuse for special treatment/ reasons for their actions (image 8). My concentration concludes with the stress of societal pressures (image 10) that ultimately causes death (image 11).
